t.v. family

Joe Booker

In the show Family Guy the parenting styles vary. Louis the mother seems to be very authoritative with her children being warm and setting clear limits on what not to do. Peter the father is very rejecting of his children always making fun of them or making them do things to make them look stupid. Even with Lois being authoritative with the kids Peters teaching style over takes hers and affects the children tremendously. Stewie the youngest child has a strong hatred for his mother and wants to kill her because she acts warm towards him and he is not used to that because his father is always mistreating him. Stewie seems to resent everyone in the family he feels that he was far superior then the rest of the family. Chris the oldest male is very awkward and always feels stupid which he got from his father. Meg the only daughter is always the center of the verbal abuse she is always the one that is being made fun of telling her she’s ugly and no one likes her. Meg is a very depressed child and does not have much self-esteem. Meg is searching for this father figure which usually leads to her dating older men. These children feel neglected when it comes to having friends in school, they are all very awkward and don’t fit in with the other kids. Since all these children don’t really fit in because of their parents they choose to be a part of risky behavior like drinking, doing drugs, and just being rebellious. This is a struggle for the parents because they drink all the time and sometimes do drugs and also partake in risky behavior making it very hypocritical to make them stop when the children most likely got it from their parents. The mother usually responds very serious making it clear that what they are doing is wrong and the father goes along with it always cracking jokes and not taking it seriously. The children’s actions and behaviors seem to directly correlate to the way their parents act or treat them. Any actions the children make it is from them acting like their parents or reacting from what their parents do. From the study of the family in the show Family Guy it is clear that parents have a huge impact on a child and as parents or teachers we need to treat and act accordingly. We are an important part of a child’s future we need to act that way.
